Manfred started his Cross-season 2017 yesterday. He chose an event in Traun in Upper Austria for his kick-off.

“Until the end of the second round I managed to catch up from the rear position that I had to start from. I now reached the leading group. From then, I could overtake the leading position every now and then. Due to some speed attacks the group got smaller. In the second half of the race there was a strong offensive by Philipp Heigl. I needed a whole round to catch up again. After that we were two at the leading position, but Andreas Hofer was only a few meters behind us. In this formation we started into the two last rounds. Most of the time I was cycling in the front position and was trying to keep the distance between me and my opponent. But he was cycling right behind me like a shadow. Finally, in the last bend, 300 meters to the finish line, the most important seconds followed. Philipp Heigl started to speed up amazingly and I couldn’t follow him – this gap remained and I wasn’t able to catch up anymore. Obviously, there was a narrow distance and missing the victory so shortly is teasing. My opponent was better today – huge respect to his performance – and the second position is also a good result.”

Of course it’s a pity to miss the victory shortly, but gratulation though to the excellent performance of Manfred.

Our Chase athlete Manfred Zöger took part in this 3-days-event at the croatian cost region close to Porec and used this opportunity for the finish of his MTB-season like many other mountain bikers.

At The first day, on Friday, a short but fast stage waited for the bikers. Due to the short distance of only 28 kilometers and the very flat track, it was a pulsating competition. The excitement among the cyclists could be felt and there were multiple offensives on the track. Finally, the bikers cycled an average velocity of 30 km per hour and the critical meters were in the final sprint. Manfred was part of the leading group and reached the sixth position. For the overall result, the next two days could still change everything.

The second day a 45 kilometers long course followed. Manfred was lucky that some cyclists in the leading group loosed their track. He finally finished as third biker. That helped him to be lifted up onto the second position after day two in the overall standings.

The marathon on the third day was a very exciting race. Manfred tried very hard and managed to stay with the leading group und headed onto the winner’s podium. The wheather conditions were not as good as on the first two days, it soon started to rain and after a while a powerful thunderbolt started.  That was not enough: Manfred was not lucky on that day. After a stony downhill he lost pressure in his rear wheel and had to stop to repair this harm. Thus, he finally arrived the daily finish after the first six cyclists and was thrown back onto the forth position in the overall standings.

All in all, it was a successful season closing of the MTB season. The turbulent race course showed once again that good and bad luck are very close to each other.

A perfect start, also the performance in the middle part was great, but lost some time in the last two rounds. Felix’ final result was the second position at the C2 competition in Ottenschlag.

After his comeback at Bike Night Flachau, our Chase test pilot reaches an excellent result in this roundtrack with international competitors. He was very happy with his performance in the downhills: “Finally I was able to let it run without having a possible downfall in mind the whole time. That’s a very good feeling after this quite failed season!”

Two more starts at mountainbike competitions wait for Felix and after that he’ll participate in the Austrian track bike championships. Maybe he’ll deliver some more successful competitions in the season finale having his current performance in mind.

About 250 cyclists from nine different nations faced the challenge in the Bike Night Flachau. Due to a lot of rain and bad wheather conditions prior to the 7th edition of this event on 12th of August, a slippery track could be expected. To attain a fair and above all a secure competition the jury decided to shorten the course. The very heart of the track, the downhill through the Hermann-Maier-Weltcup-course, was only cycled in the first round. As a consequence, the race was even a closer competition between the first three bikers.

Felix Ritzinger wins the spectacle under floodlights in the ski resort Flachau! Partly, with times below 7 minutes per round and 300 starters on the track, dodging the other cyclists that he had overtaken and avoid collisions was the bigger challenge than the slippery and wet meadow. The leading position changed in nearly every round, but in the end after all 18 rounds Felix succeeded in the final sprint in the night and won with 2 hours and 8 minutes – after the disappointing results in previous competitions this was a very important victory for him!

The Race Around Austria Challenge was one of the best opportunities to test our Chase Up rims again. In a team of two Felix Schneider and Bernhard Weiß started as Team Chase. August, the 13th at 5pm the signal for the start was being heard in St.Georgien in the Austrian region called Attergau. The established team reached the finish line after 16 hours and 55 minutes. All in all it was a extraordinary experience on the track surrounding Upper Austria.

Already one day prior to the event Felix and Bernhard headed off to St.Georgen and met Martin Granadia for an interview. The chat and discussion with him was really interesting and detailed. If you want to learn more on Martin Granadia and his cycling blog go onto: radblog 169k.net.

Both were already looking forward to the event and in the evening before the race the last preparations were made. Felix and Bernhard were accompanied by a great team, Sebi, Augi, Marlene, Meli und Peter were the best supporters they could have.

In the first two hours on the track after having passed Braunau am Inn, there was a tough battle between Team Chase and Team Alpha which turned into a combat who will reach the leading position.  The weather conditions were not very friendly as it is known for the RAA, it got more and more rainy, wet and cold. Of course, Bernhard und Felix remained defiant, did not give up and showed very high performances further on.

In the night, the two could easily match the challenges and passed Freistadt, St. Valentin and Steyr. In the morning hours they coped with the so called Hengstpass which is one of the highest passes in this challenge and followed the track to Attersee and Gmunden. Both of them worked very hard until the finish line and it was a very narrow result in the end.

Team Sareno were the first to finish with a new record time with 15 hours and 17 minutes. Our Team Chase missed the winner’s rostrum and finished as unlucky forth position behind Team Alpha who took the third place.  Tough, it was a great experience and an extraordinary performance.

Start fast – cycle better – finish the best!

A huge thank you to all the highly motivated supporters: Sebi, Augi, Marlene, Peter und Melanie.

Our athlete Felix Ritzinger won a silver medal at the austrian XCO championship in Koppl near Salzburg the 23rd of July. He won the second place in the category U23. Even he didn’t finally reach the first place, he still succeeded as second best.

On July 29th, 144 mountainbikers competed in the 16th edition of the Schlossberg XC in Kirchschlag. The competition was again part of the Austrian Youngstercup, the greatest national junior-racing-series in Austria, the LRV-Lower Austria junior-cup and the Austria Sportklassecup as well. Bikers from all nine Austrian federal states, one of them was our athlete Manfred Zöger, and also international athletes competed in the race. Cyclists from Hungary, Germany and Slovenia have been racing at this event for years now.

The race day started in the morning with the elite- and hobbyclass, then the junior-riders had their turn. Gladly, we can announce that our Chase athlete Manfred Zöger could win the race in the eliteclass in front of many visitors and the event-association. He celebrated his third home triumph on the 24km long track with the time of 1hr 4min. With this performance, the lower-austrian athlete could stand this position against Höller and Mesanagic. We congratulate him on the great win!

Under the slogan ‘Stage free for the stars of tomorrow’ the junior-athletes of the classes U9 to U17 competed in exciting position-fights. During warm conditions children and teenagers had the chance to attend a cross-country-competition as well as a technically difficult parcour. Although they had international opponents, the austrian riders could win most of the races. Only under the girls of the U9 and U11 the winners came from Germany and Hungary. All other winners of the day came from Austria though.

In conclusion, the racing day was very successful and the track and the whole event got appreciative feedback from the participants.

July 15th, Bad Goisern

The Salzkammergut trophy in mid-July is a traditional event and fixpoint for many mountainbikers. The event has become the biggest MTB marathon in Austria since its beginning 20 years ago. Our team took part in the race again this year and was able to give a great performance.

Our Chase athlete Manfred started the 53km distance at 11:00 a.m. At cold conditions the track was dry at first, but a few minutes later it started to rain. Already since the beginning a four-man-group of top-riders could pull clear of the rest of the over 900 riders – Manfred was of the party. He always had to push hard during the climb not to fall out of the top-group. His three opponents presented themselves a bit stronger in the first 1,5 racehours.

But Manfred managed to stay in the group, and while the rain was getting stronger, Manfred was getting faster. At heavy rain and one-digit temperatures at the high of the track Manfred was in third position, a podium position was therefore within reach. One opponent fell back during the descent because of a technical defect and so Manfred was able to finish the race after the last flat kilometers in a great second place!

Friday, the 14th of Juli, we headed off for a highlight in this season, the 24hours challenge in Kaindorf. We wanted to cycle in our team in relay as many rounds as possible in a track of 12,2 kilometers.

Above all teamspirit and a good experience was our goal. But additionally, we wanted to take advantage of this race to test our equipment. At 18pm our first cyclist, Lukas Winter, started enthusiastically in the first round. All together we managed to achieve short round durations and above all the leading position. This performance has only been possible thanks to the team’s work and all its members –  Lukas Steinbichler, Wolfgang Hoffmann, Gabriel Wahringer, Thomas Ofner, Peter Fröhlich, Lukas Winter und Felix Schneider.

All in all, we had a really good time. We were highly satisfied with the Chase rims and they could easily withstand the test of 24hours.

On Saturday evening the spectacular race lasting for 24hours on the 14th/15th of July is over.

After having cycled to the front position leading with four rounds and 878,4 cycled kilometers all in all, the race direction disputed our team one hour in advance to the finish. “Not all your cyclists work for Chase GmbH”.

This requirement hadn’t been expressed yet. Finally we were not allowed to cycle in the business rating, we then decided not to take over the podium stage in the 10-person team rating and resigned our position to the teams that worked hard for it and earn their podium stage. Fairness and team spirit are the priorities for Team Chase.

Nevertheless, the team’s performance was excellent, as we expect from Team RAA!  We managed to fulfill our own goals and expectations. We enjoyed the challenge a lot and had a really good time!
